Happy Hour Anyone?

Who doesn’t love a good happy hour?  I know I do.  Downtown Detroit has some great places to enjoy wonderful food and drinks at half the price.  About a month ago (whenever Yanni was in town), Alessandro and I went to happy hour at Centaur .  I think we went there on a Sunday early evening not realizing that it was happy hour, which made the surprise of discount eats and drinks even better.  I had the delicious spicy chicken tacos and a tall glass of Boddington. Yum!

Alessandro had sliders and the sesame encrusted tuna.

He didn't really care for the tuna much, but the sliders were pretty good.  We enjoyed sitting by the windows and people watching.  Yanni concert goers were decked out in fur coats…it was awesome.

Overall, it was a great happy hour experience.

Centaur Happy Hour Info:  4-7pm, Sunday-Thursday,1 /2 off towers of any three different items, $5 martinis and $1 off draft beers and glasses of wine.

Another place that Alessandro and I enjoyed happy hour at recently was Small Plates.  Small Plates is where Alessandro and I had our first real date, so it does hold a special place in our hearts.  We went there on St. Patrick’s day this year (which marked the 5th year anniversary of our first kiss).  Again, we stumbled upon this happy hour by accident.  We started the day by going to the Spa at MGM so that Alessandro could use the gift certificate I got him for Christmas.  The spa was pretty cool looking and had a really good feel to it.

He really enjoyed his massage, and I thought mine was just alright.

After the spa, we decided to go to Small Plates since we had a Groupon.  Booyah!  When we arrived, we saw that it was happy hour and got really excited (even though we ended up ordering some things that were not included in the specials).  We had mushrooms in sherry sauce (awesome!), almond chicken (awesome!) and garlic shrimp (Al said it was awesome!).

For dessert, Alessandro had a mini ice cream sundae, and I had a no flour chocolate ganache cake and a glass of Cockburn's Port.

We very much enjoyed Small Plates happy hour and I think you would too!

Small Plates Happy Hour Info 4-6pm, Tuesday-Friday, at the bar (which is really tiny) or on the patio only, 1/2 off small plates, $3 beers, $4 wells, $5 wine and $6 cosmos.

Often times, the first thing to come to mind when someone says "happy hour" are the drinks.  But don't forget to take advantage of the amazing food deals that come along with it.  Especially at great restaurants that can sometimes be a bit pricey.

Next on our happy hour itinerary is our favorite restaurant, Angelina Italian Bistro, and Roast.  Stay tuned for details!

Where are some of your favorite happy hour locations?  Inside and outside of the City?
